Geografic Position

     The town of Santa Lucia del Mela, in one of the widest of the province(a few less than 83 km), shows a splendid variety of landscapes. The tall peaks of the Peloritan mountains offer an ecstatic view of the tyrannous and ionic slopes.
     Untouched surrounding reveal a rich variety of flora and millennial oak forests. Going up the Mela river and its clear perennial waters, we arrive at the prehistoric giant fern that has been flourishing there for at least 60 million years.
     The fauna is rather heterogeneous: dormouse, blackbird, crows, hawks, porcupines, wild cats, hedgehogs, martens, and hares. At Postoleone (1020 m), where for years there has been a work of tree planting there's a pleasant forest and a quaint little pond, which is a destination spot for travelers and campers who prior authorization flee to this ionic slope.
     Interesting mountain tours by foot or by horse to the sources of the Mela river or the Timogna fortress (1180ms), can be organized using experienced local guides.
     The site is located only 7 kms from the main highway of Milazzo.
     Its only 35 kms from Messina from Messina (20 minutes by car) and is also 12 kms from Milazzo and Barcellona.
